25 Years in the Service of Arab Media
The Arab Media Award was established in November 1999 as the "Arab Journalism Award" under the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The award was created to support the development of Arab journalism, strengthen its role in serving society, encourage innovation and excellence among Arab journalists, and honor their professional achievements.
His Highness entrusted the Dubai Press Club with establishing the award and structuring a system to ensure its integrity, objectivity, and pan-Arab inclusivity. The award is governed by an independent board comprising leading Arab media figures, academics, intellectuals, and specialists, while its Secretary-General handles executive management from its headquarters at the Dubai Press Club.
On November 28, 2021, under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and with the oversight of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council, the Arab Journalism Award transitioned into the Arab Media Award. This transformation expanded its scope to include the Visual Media and Digital Media sectors alongside Journalism.
In November 2024, the award underwent key enhancements, including the introduction of the "Investigative Reporting" category and the refinement of category descriptions and criteria. Furthermore, the Digital Media and Children's Journalism categories were integrated into the Arab Social Media Influencers Award.
